Sometimes the best sequels are the ones nobody asked for.

Patina Cigars and Viso Horny have announced the return of their original Verdigris collaboration, appropriately renamed Patina y Viso ReVerdigris.

The limited-edition release reunites Patina Cigars founder Mo Maali and Viso Horny founder Tyler Jeffery, bringing back the exact blend and size that debuted in 2025.

While the cigar remains unchanged on paper, the packaging takes a playful approach to Hollywood's ongoing obsession with sequels, complete with artwork proclaiming "The Sequel Nobody Asked For."

But behind the humor is a story that began years before the first Verdigris ever reached a cigar shop.

A Friendship That Started in Chicago

The story of Verdigris begins not in a tobacco field or blending room, but inside a Chicago cigar lounge.

Maali and Jeffery first crossed paths at Casa de Puros in Chicago, where a chance conversation planted the seeds of what would eventually become both a friendship and a cigar collaboration.

Jeffery, who has roots in the Milwaukee cigar community, was visiting cigar shops in Chicago when he met Maali.

Their initial encounter was brief, but Jeffery remembered the conversation. After subsequently hearing Maali on a podcast, the two reconnected, eventually leading Jeffery to begin carrying Patina cigars in the humidor he managed.

What started as a connection between two cigar enthusiasts developed into a friendship built around their shared interest in tobacco, blending, and the craftsmanship behind premium cigars.

That friendship would ultimately take them to Nicaragua.

From Chicago to Estelí, Nicaragua

During a conversation about traveling to Nicaragua, Maali encouraged Jeffery to join him on an upcoming trip.

Jeffery accepted the invitation, and the two traveled to Estelí, Nicaragua, one of the most important centers of premium cigar production.

During their visits, they spent time learning about tobacco selection, blending, and fermentation while working with respected industry figures Gustavo Cura and Angel Oliva III.

Jeffery also gained firsthand exposure to Nicaragua American Cigars S.A. (NACSA), the factory where Patina Cigars had moved production.

These experiences provided more than an education in tobacco. They strengthened the friendship between the two men and eventually inspired the idea of creating a cigar together.

After multiple trips to Nicaragua, that idea became a reality.

The Birth of Verdigris in 2025

In June 2025, Patina Cigars and Viso Horny officially announced their first collaborative project, Patina y Viso Verdigris.

The cigar was designed around a blend featuring an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed binder, and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.

Produced at NACSA in Estelí, the cigar was offered in a single 5 x 52 robusto vitola.

The name Verdigris refers to the greenish-blue patina that develops on copper, brass, and bronze through oxidation. It was a fitting name that connected directly to the Patina brand while representing something that develops character over time.

The packaging also celebrated the founders' Midwestern connections.

The Chicago skyline represented Maali, while Milwaukee's iconic art museum paid tribute to Jeffery's Wisconsin roots.

The original Verdigris began shipping to retailers in late July 2025.

Production was limited to 300 bundles of 10 cigars, totaling just 3,000 cigars, with a suggested retail price of $13 per cigar or $130 per bundle.

Distribution was restricted to 10 selected retailers across the country, reinforcing the cigar's boutique identity.

Rather than becoming a regular-production cigar, Verdigris remained a limited collaboration between two friends who had shared a journey from the Midwest to the tobacco fields and factories of Nicaragua.

ReVerdigris: The Return of the Original Blend

Fast-forward to October 2026, and Maali and Jeffery have decided the original collaboration deserves another run.

Instead of creating a new blend or dramatically changing the cigar, ReVerdigris returns with the same tobacco components, vitola, and production factory.

Maali explained the decision with characteristic simplicity:

"It's a good blend. We wanted to smoke it again. The label just says the quiet part out loud."

Jeffery took a more humorous approach, comparing the project's return to Hollywood's current fascination with revisiting familiar stories.

The result is a cigar that embraces its status as a sequel without pretending to be something completely new.

For enthusiasts who enjoyed the original Verdigris, ReVerdigris offers another opportunity to revisit the collaboration.

However, even when a cigar returns with the same blend, differences in tobacco harvests, aging, and fermentation can influence the smoking experience.

That raises an interesting question for those who remember the original release: will ReVerdigris smoke exactly like its predecessor, or will time have given the blend a slightly different personality?

Familiar Packaging with a New Twist

The packaging for ReVerdigris retains the Chicago and Milwaukee imagery featured on the original release.

However, the original Verdigris name now features a spray-painted "RE" across the design.

A biplane pulling a banner reading "The Sequel Nobody Asked For" completes the sequel-inspired artwork.

It's an intentionally lighthearted approach that reflects the personalities behind the collaboration.

Even More Limited Than the Original

One significant difference between Verdigris and ReVerdigris is the production quantity.

While the original release consisted of 3,000 cigars, ReVerdigris will be limited to 200 bundles of 10 cigars, totaling 2,000 cigars.

That represents a one-third reduction in production compared with the 2025 release.

The cigars are expected to begin shipping in late October 2026, with additional shipments continuing into early November.

Distribution will once again focus on the same small group of retailers that received the original collaboration.

Pricing for ReVerdigris has not yet been finalized and is expected to be announced before shipping begins.

More Than Just Another Limited-Edition Cigar

The cigar industry has no shortage of limited editions and collaborations. What makes Verdigris and now ReVerdigris particularly interesting is the personal history behind them.

This wasn't simply a project in which two companies decided to put their names on the same cigar.

It began with a chance meeting in Chicago, continued through a growing friendship in the Midwest, and developed during trips to Nicaragua where two cigar enthusiasts expanded their knowledge of tobacco and blending.

Those experiences eventually produced Verdigris in 2025, and now the story continues with ReVerdigris in 2026.

For Patina Cigars and Viso Horny, the sequel represents an opportunity to revisit a cigar they enjoyed creating together.

For cigar enthusiasts, it offers another opportunity to experience a blend that was previously available in extremely limited quantities.

And considering that ReVerdigris will have an even smaller production run than the original, those interested in getting their hands on the sequel may want to pay attention when shipments begin.

The sequel nobody asked for? Perhaps. But sometimes a good cigar, and a good friendship, deserve a second chapter.
