Emilio Cigars Begins Shipping Limited-Edition Suave Sumatra

Aug 25, 2026

Limited-Edition Suave Sumatra

Emilio Cigars has begun shipping its new limited-edition Suave Sumatra, adding a third blend to the brand’s popular Suave line.

First unveiled during the 2026 Premium Cigar Association Trade Show in New Orleans, Suave Sumatra joins the existing Suave Connecticut and Suave Maduro offerings. The cigars are produced at Fábrica Oveja Negra in Estelí, Nicaragua, with the blend developed by James Brown, owner of Black Label Trading Company and Fábrica Oveja Negra.

The most significant change comes on the outside of the cigar. Suave Sumatra uses a Sumatra wrapper, paired with an Ecuadorian Habano binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

Interestingly, reports surrounding the release indicate that the wrapper is Indonesian Sumatra, rather than the Ecuador-grown Sumatra tobacco commonly found on many cigars carrying the Sumatra name.

For Brown, the goal was to retain the approachable character that has defined Suave while introducing another level of spice and complexity.

“Suave has been the cigar line that really put Emilio on the map. It's not only a great introduction to the brand but also a great introduction to smoking cigars in general.”

Brown added that the Sumatra wrapper emphasizes the blend's balance of spice, flavor and complexity, while maintaining the long finish and subtle sweetness associated with the Suave line.

Expanding the Suave Line
The addition gives Emilio three distinct expressions within the Suave family.

The current Suave Connecticut was reformulated and released in 2019, while Suave Maduro followed in 2022. Both are regular-production offerings. Suave Sumatra takes the line in a slightly different direction as a limited-edition release built around the character of its Sumatra wrapper.

Emilio Cigars is part of the Oveja Negra Brands portfolio alongside Black Label Trading Company and Black Works Studio, with the brands sharing production through Fábrica Oveja Negra in Estelí.

For smokers already familiar with Suave, the Sumatra edition offers a chance to experience the line with a little more spice and complexity while maintaining the approachable profile that helped establish the brand.
